Learning, Design, and Technology
Enjoy building instructional design skills to create innovative, technology-rich learning experiences and strengthen instructional leadership skills to advance your career across educational sectors (K-12, Corporate, Higher Education, Military) through our 100% online Master of Science in Learning, Design, and Technology (MS-LDT) program.
Learning, Design, and Technology Program Overview
Are you ready to create great instruction for learners of all ages? Are you interested in capitalizing on emerging technologies and developing leadership skills to guide colleagues and organizations?
East Carolina University’s Master of Science (MS) in Learning, Design, and Technology (LDT) prepares students to design, produce and evaluate instruction for a variety of educational settings including P–12 schools, business, higher education, health, military, and other government sectors. In addition, our well-rounded educational experience advances leadership skills. Our graduates use the latest technologies and work with content experts to design engaging and effective learning experiences that range from traditional classroom-based instruction to cutting-edge e-learning to hybrid learning environments. Further, our graduates provide leadership in organizations.
Courses in the program focus on ethical design, multimedia design, digital production, emerging technologies, innovative instructional design, educational technology leadership, educational research, and distance, classroom, and hybrid learning. There is a blend of theoretical, research-based principles that bolster the program along with practical application of knowledge and skills used to solve problems in design and training.
Faculty members take pride in our graduates who work across educational sectors as technology coordinators or facilitators in P–12 school systems and in the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction; as master teachers and leaders in schools; as instructional designers in higher education, business, and in the military; as consultants; and as managers, administrators, and leaders in learning organizations.
The MS-LDT program includes a core of instructional design courses that lay a foundation for future doctoral studies. In addition to the main courses, a culminating capstone experience allows the student to apply learning for leadership in an educational setting.
ECU Advantage
The MS-LDT program is offered entirely online and taught by internationally recognized, award-winning faculty in instructional design, emerging technologies, distance education, and educational media production. Media projects developed and produced by students in the program have received national awards, and students have seen their work published in internationally renowned journals. The MS-LDT program is comprised of two major concentrations: K-12 and Corporate. The K-12 concentration produces professionals ready to make a difference in the lives of teachers and students. Graduates in this concentration qualify for both 077 advanced licensure and the 18079 special endorsement needed to work as technology coordinator or technology director in North Carolina schools. Graduates who pursued the corporate concentration lead instructional design and development in higher education, corporate training, and military settings. Courses are designed to accommodate working professionals and full-time students.
