The ECU School of Dental Medicine's mission is to develop leaders with a passion to care for the underserved and improve the health of North Carolina; its vision is to lead the nation in community-based oral health education, research, patient care and service.

The school's award-winning national model of curriculum and care combines 27 weeks of clinical experience for fourth-year students; they complete three nine-week rotations at the school’s eight service learning centers across the state. This experience allows the students to prepare to care for patients in rural communities and to better understand the challenges our patient populations face.

Faculty, students, residents and staff strive to meet patients where they are, to provide access to care close to their home communities. Our clinics at ECU and centers across the state offer solutions to patients who might otherwise not have access to dental care.
