The master of science in nutrition allows students to get advanced training and knowledge in nutrition and dietetics. This degree is for both registered dietitians who are seeking advancement in their career, and students who are interested in doing research in nutrition. The MS degree is taught completely online.

What You Will Study

The Nutrition, MS provides advanced study in the practice of nutrition and dietetics. Applicants must meet the admission requirements of the Graduate School. Decisions regarding admission to the nutrition degree program are based on the following criteria: courses required for the undergraduate nutrition minor; GRE test scores; and the overall or last 60 s.h. GPA. Applicants may be required to take additional courses as part of the master of science degree in order to make up deficiencies. Students may choose a thesis or a non-thesis option. The non-thesis option may be taken completely online.

The degree requires a minimum of 33 s.h. as follows:

1. Core courses - 9 s.h.
  • BIOS 7021 - Biostatistics for Health Professionals I
  • NUTR 6105 - Human Nutrition in Physiology and Metabolism
  • NUTR 6200 - Methods in Nutrition Research
2. Research courses - 6-10 s.h.

    • NUTR 6900 - Review of Current Literature
    • NUTR 6950 - Seminar in Nutrition

    Note:

    Graduate courses in nutrition and dietetics, with the exception of NUTR 6031, NUTR 6032, NUTR 6033, and NUTR 6102 (internship practicum) are offered online. Contact the Department of Nutrition Science for information regarding course availability, hardware, and software requirements.
